There is an ethical imperative that, as technology progresses, that it be available for individuals of all abilities.
Aging adults and individuals with different abilities sometimes have different needs when it comes to enjoying the technologies that most of the public have been able to enjoy with ease.
Changing the World of Technology for the Better
Over time, growing awareness about the limitations of technology has spurred action, both within and without tech companies.
Both government and corporate entities, along with individuals, have been increasingly dedicated to creating change for assistive technology (AT).
Speech-to-text programs are a popular form of assistive technology. As are alternative input devices, such as eye-tracking technology that can tell where you want the mouse to go.
Spreading awareness about AT has brought many great things over the years. We are proud of the progress that has been made so far, but acknowledge that even with the existence of assistive technology, there is still work to be done to make it as efficient and accommodating as possible.
Time Timer Products for People of All Abilities
We here at Time Timer have long been supportive of efforts to make technology more inclusive. Part of that work for us includes designing products that are forms of Intuitive Assistive Technology. In particular, our visual timers have a lot of uses for individuals with cognitive differences such as ADHD and autism.
Many traditional time management tools are hard for individuals with cognitive differences because of time blindness. Time blindness broadly refers to the experience of having trouble telling time, or estimating how long a task would take.
For older adults, and younger people, with vision problems, our visual timers can be a great way to keep track of activities and tasks throughout the day. The elapsing red disk makes telling “how much longer” easier, and more immediate, for someone who has trouble keeping track of time.
Time Timer believes in creating products that truly help people of all ages and abilities to conquer time – in the classroom, in the home, and in the office. While time can be a challenge for everyone, we aim to provide intuitive and innovative solutions that make a real difference.
